Change and Then Some

If there is one universal denominator that doesn’t change, it’s change

Despite the influence that technology has wielded over the past several years as well as the way that tech has come to permeate throughout the job search process, many recruiters and hiring managers maintain that job seeking really hasn’t changed.

As alluded to earlier, technology has been a major disruptor in the hiring process but the bottom line is that people still hire people. Also, people have an insatiable need to meet with the prospective job seekers descending upon their companies in search employment.

Can’t deny the changes

LinkedIn, AI, video interviews, automatic tracking systems (ATS) and the like have made their impacts, but the job search process still comes down identifying job candidates, meeting with them to determine their suitability and to weed out the undesirables. One job coach noted that “65-80 percent of all job connections ultimately trace back to a conversation with someone you know.”

Yet, deal with the technology, we must. For many people who struggle with the modern influx of tech, prominent experts trace it back to what you’re comfortable with. Most resistance comes from having to deal with (and/or learn) something new. If you’re not familiar with LinkedIn – or whatever – the more you work with it and the better you get to know it, the more comfortable that you’ll feel working with it. The same is true with virtually all technology.

It’s important to keep in mind that – when looking at your job search – knowing the technology is important, but knowing people is more important.
