To the Mountain Top

No matter how overwhelming your job search, remember this

A job search sometimes can seem an insurmountable and overwhelming task. There is so much to do. Update your resume. Create a compelling LinkedIn profile – and that’s something that didn’t even exist for many 50+ job seekers the last time they looked. Networking. Informational interviews. And top all that off with age discrimination. Is it ever going to stop?
How will you ever manage it?
The bad news is that there is no silver bullet. There is no one absolutely correct way to look for (and find) a new job. What worked for you 20 years ago, or even what worked for your neighbor last year may not work for you this year. (Or vice versa.)
For those who claim that looking for a job is a job, it may help to approach it as a job assignment. It’s a project and there are many theories as to how best to complete it successfully.
However, no matter how steep that mountain may seem, no matter how many ways you feel like you’re being bombarded, sometimes it’s best to step back, take a deep breath and review what you’re doing and what you’re trying to do. And with this being the beginning of a new year, this is an opportune time to do just that.
Want some comfort in the tornado now swirling around inside your brain? Keep this in mind. When you’re looking for a job (with few exceptions)… you only need to find one. Everything you do is directed at finding just one job. It’s like when you’re buying a house. You don’t need three. You don’t need five. You don’t need ten. Just one.
And that makes it infinitely more manageable.
