Perhaps the most under-rated job seeking trait
➔ There is no shortage of inspirational words, phrases and quotes when it comes to perseverance. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of them.
And make no mistake, they are inspirational. And at no time in your life can these words of wisdom and inspiration mean more than when you’re looking for a job. Of course this is especially true for the older job seeker.
How can words of wisdom get you a job?
Surprise, surprise. Words of wisdom alone will not get you a job. But there is one word that can be especially helpful to the job seeker and that word is “perseverance.”
That’s probably because job seekers – especially older job seekers – tend to encounter multiple rejections before landing that next gig. Ask any job seeker and you’ll hear tales of woe like you’ve never imagined.
But there are votes for stick-to-it-tive-ness. And not just perseverance in general, but perseverance as it applies to job seeking.
We heard this story from the manager of a small business. He was being besieged by a young man in search of a job. The man had decided that this particular company was exactly right for him so he persevered. So much so that the manager said that he hired the young man just to stop him from constantly bothering him.
We will grant you that this is the extreme but it does illustrate a point. Keep pounding on those doors and eventually someone will answer.
