You are what you are

According to The Wall Street Journal – and this does not just apply to job seekers – there are things that you can do shape the perception that others have of you – good and bad. You can confirm or reject these notions based on your own experience. Here’s a sampling:
Want to look smart?
.Speak with self confidence;
.speak clearly and smoothly;
.use short words and simple sentences;
.listen carefully, respond thoughtfully;
.ask questions and respect other points of view.
Want to look… not so smart?
.Use big words – especially use them incorrectly or out of context;
.speak too loudly;
.Speak too much.
One final thought on the subject of perception:
“I am concerned about ageism and the loss of beauty - the perception that as you grow older, you 'lose your looks,' which I think is diabolical.” — Erin O'Connor
