New Year. New You.

Take your job search and dive into the new year

➔ As we begin the new year, here are some tips to make sure that your job search is ready to rock’n’roll as well. Not exactly a checklist, but it’s a start.

Let’s start with: Get your house in order.

Polish your resume and LinkedIn profile. Tweak your resume to focus on things like: concise, relevant and quantifiable results. Does your LinkedIn profile include keywords and a compelling summary highlighting your skills and career goals. Last, audit your online presence. Does your social media profile portray someone you would want to hire?

Be strategic. Are you certain as to what kind of job are you seeking? Do you know what your ideal company looks like? What precisely are your salary expectations?

Network like a pro. Reconnect with your existing network. Reach out to former colleagues, mentors and friends in your target industry and ask about potential openings or to schedule informational interviews. Join professional groups on LinkedIn or participate in industry webinars and conferences to expand your network.

Can your professional development benefit from some selective up-skilling? Spread your wings by volunteering or participating in side projects. Showcasing your expertise not only enhances your skills but also expands your network and demonstrates initiative.

Break down your job search into manageable weekly or monthly goals for applications, networking contacts or interview preparation and take the time to celebrate small wins. Conversely don't get discouraged by setbacks. Keep in mind the old adage that a successful job search is a marathon, not a sprint. Be consistent, put in the effort and adapt your strategies as needed.
