Do people see you as you are, or as you want them to
➔ According to our friends at The Wall Street Journal, there are things that you can do shape the perception that others have of you – good and bad.
Want to look smart?
Speak with self confidence;
Speak clearly and smoothly;
Use short words and simple sentences;
Listen carefully, respond thoughtfully;
Ask questions and respect other points of view.
Want to look… not so smart?
Use big words – especially use them incorrectly or out of context;
Speak too loudly;
Speak too much.
One final thought on the subject of perception:
“I am concerned about ageism and the loss of beauty - the perception that as you grow older, you 'lose your looks,' which I think is diabolical.” — Erin O'Connor
